Ep 176: The Mentor (A Secret Tapes conversation with Cyndi Finkle)

When I sat down to write The Mentor chapter of The Life Council: 10 Friends Every Woman Needs, I thought I was going to reveal that The Mentor was the seat that has remained empty on my own life council. 

But as I wrote, I realized that I have had mentors along the way, women who have lit the path ahead of me and shown me who I wanted to be. Chief among those is my friend Cyndi Finkle - a woman who so greatly influenced me when I moved to Los Angeles that I can trace so many of my decisions to her and her example.

When Cyndi and I sat down to record this conversation for the Secret Tapes series, we had barely seen each other in nearly 10 years, even though we live within miles of one another. It was a chance for me to tell her how much she meant to me during the most important year of my life, and to hear her side of what it felt like to take a 22-year-old sorority girl fresh out of Oklahoma under her wing.
